Q: Does becoming a Chaplain mean being affiliated with a specific religious genre such as Christianity?
A: No. A Chaplains duty is to conform, in part, to the beliefs of those for whom services are being rendered. While most Chaplains have their own belief structure, it is incumbent upon them to not impose their beliefs on others. This level of respect is expected to be mutual.
Q: Do I really need CPE to become a Chaplain?
A: Yes if you want a tremendous amount of credibility to your position. By getting your CPE you are better prepared to be a Chaplain across many different disciplines in counseling. It’s not just for education but for preparation to be the most effective Chaplain you can be. CPE and Board Certification also puts you in the position for being paid much better than if you didn’t have either CPE or Board Certification.
Q: What life challenges do chaplains handle?
A: Chaplains offer support to individuals and families for a variety of life challenges. Some of these challenges include marriage issues, substance abuse, aging and end of life issues, and grief.
Q: What types of environments do chaplains work?
A: Chaplains work in a variety of environments. Some of these environments include hospice care facilities, military units, hospitals, fire departments and educational institutions.
